Armenia’s Defense Minister visited Afghanistan
The delegation headed by Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan visited Afghanistan July 24-26.
On July 24 the Armenian Defense Minister visited the region of Kunduz, where the Armenian peacekeeping contingent ensures the security of the airport. Spiritual leader of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, Vrtanes Archbishop Abrahamyan, blessed the temple built by Armenian peacekeepers.
Within the framework of the visit the Armenian delegation had meetings with meet David Howell Petraeus, Commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Commander of the U.S. Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A). During the meeting the parties discussed the security environment in Afghanistan and the region, the results of the Kabul summit. The ISAF Commander expressed gratitude to Seyran Ohanayn for the excellent and exemplary service of the Armenian peacekeepers and the important contribution Armenian peacekeepers make to ensure the security of the northern regions of Afghanistan, which are of strategic importance.
On July 25 the Armenian delegation was welcomed by Afghanistan’s Defense Minister Abdul Rahim Vardak and The chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Afghanistan, Lieutenant General Sher Muhammad Karimi. They hailed the activity of the Armenian peacekeepers and presented the general situation in Afghanistan

NKR President: Azerbaijan’s subversive acts pose a threat to regional security and the entire civilized world
“The authorities of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic will do everything possible to keep the technical equipment of the Defense Army on a proper level and nothing will be spared,” NKR President Bako Sahakyan said at the meeting with the Defense Army’s military council, Central Information Department of the Office of the NKR President reported. Bako Sahakyan noted that together with modern equipment it is necessary to keep high the morale of the soldiers, which includes a comprehensive package of measures comprising psychological, educational, social and other aspects. Touching upon recent violations of the cease-fire regime by Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Artsakh Republic armed forces qualified them as subversive terrorist acts that pose a threat both to the regional security and to the entire civilized world. President Sahakyan underlined that the best way of preventing aggression is to rebuff it strongly. “If it is not done then the scope of instability will be definitely enlarged,” the President noted. Bako Sahakyan rated high the fighting efficiency of the Defense Army, which was once again proved by the effective neutralization of all the provocations of the adversary. Minsk Group co-chairs urge the parties to respect strictly the cease-fire
The Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Ambassadors Igor Popov of Russia, Bernard Fassier of France, and Robert Bradtke of the United States, released the following statement today: "As part of their efforts to facilitate negotiations for the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs (Ambassador Bernard Fassier of France; Ambassador Robert Bradtke of the United States; Ambassador Igor Popov of the Russian Federation) expect to be particularly active in the months leading up to the OSCE Summit. The Co-Chairs will travel to Baku, Yerevan, and Nagorno-Karabakh September 6-10 to discuss additional actions necessary to strengthen the cease-fire, to promote a spirit of compromise by all parties, and to finalize modalities for further action. During the third full week of September, the Co-Chairs will travel to Washington, D.C. and then to New York to work with the sides on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly.
